South Lincs RSPB Local Group 20th Anniversary

South Lincs RSPB Local Group has recently celebrated their 20th year with a garden party at Roads Farmhouse, Frampton. On a glorious warm, sunny afternoon, guest of honour Graham Wynne, Chief Executive of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, along with the other guests, were given a guided walk around RSPB Frampton Marsh Reserve by Site Manager John Badley and Assistant Wardens Paul French and Graham Figg. The walk was followed by a buffet supper in the garden, after which, current Group Leader, Barry Hancock, gave a brief history of the Group’s achievements since it’s inception in 1987. An annual programme of guided walks, indoor illustrated talks in Boston and other towns from Spilsby to Spalding and Sleaford, fundraising events that have culminated in the Group donating over £50,000 to the RSPB, most of which has been spent on our local RSPB reserves.  Over the last four years the Group have successfully run birdwatching boat trips into the Wash, bringing people to Boston from many parts of the country to see the wildlife spectacle on our shores. Graham Wynne was presented with a cheque for £160 towards the RSPB’s Albatross Appeal by 10 year old Poppy Rummery from Whaplode St Catherine, who raised the money by making and selling cakes and doing a sponsored walk around RSPB Freiston Shore Reserve. To commemorate the Group’s 20th Anniversary Christine Hancock presented Graham Wynne with an aerial photograph of RSPBFreistonShore reserve. Live music was supplied by Jet and after supper and presentations, the wild life theme continued at dusk with bat detectors and moth traps to find out what other ‘guests’ were at the party.
